Malah Rasulullah s.a.w menjelaskan bahawa ketika seseorang itu terjaga dari tidur pada malam hari jika ia berdoa maka akan dikabulkan doanya dan jika bangun kemudian solat maka solatnya akan diterima oleh Allah taala. Hal ini dijelaskan dalam hadis yang diriwayatkan oleh Imam al-Bukhari berikut ini.
Dari ‘Ubadah bin Shamit Radhiallahu’anhu, dari Rasulullah Shallallahu’alaihi wasallam beliau bersabda: “Barangsiapa yang terjaga di malam hari, kemudian dia membaca:
لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ، وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيْكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ، اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ، وَلاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ
Laa ilaaha illallaah, wahdahu laa syariikalah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamd, wa huwa ‘alaa kulli syai-in qodiir, alhamdulillaah, wa subhaanallaah, wa laa ilaaha illallaah, wallaahu akbar, wa laa haula wa laa quwwata illaa billaah.
Tiada Tuhan yang berhak disembah selain Allah, Yang Maha Esa, tiada sekutu bagiNya.
BagiNya kerajaan dan pujian. Dia-lah Yang Maha Kuasa atas segala sesuatu. Segala Puji bagi Allah, Maha Suci Allah, tiada Tuhan yang berhak disembah selain Allah, Allah Maha Besar, tiada daya dan kekuatan kecuali dengan pertolongan Allah.

Imam Ibnu Baththal Rahimahullah berkata, “Bagi orang sampai kepadanya hadits ini, sepantasnya dia berusaha mengamalkannya dan mengikhlaskan niatnya (ketika mengamalkannya) untuk Allah Ta’ala.”
(dinukil oleh Imam Ibnu Hajar Rahimahullah dalam kitab Fathul Baari 3/41).
Keterangan:
Imam Ibnu Hajar Rahimahullah berkata, “Perbuatan yang disebutkan dalam hadits ini hanyalah (mampu dilakukan) oleh orang telah terbiasa, senang dan banyak berdzikir (kepada Allah), sehingga dzikir tersebut menjadi ucapan (kebiasaan) dirinya sewaktu tidur dan terjaga, maka Allah Ta’ala memuliakan orang yang demikian sifatnya dengan mengabulkan doanya dan menerima shalatnya.” (Kitab Fathul Baari 3/40).
Keutamaan mengucapkan dzikir ini juga berlaku bagi orang yang terjaga di malam hari kemudian dia mengucapkan dzikir ini (berulang-ulang) sampai dia tertidur.
Imam an-Nawawi berkata, “Orang yang terjaga di malam hari dan ingin tidur (lagi) setelahnya, dianjurkan baginya untuk berdzikir kepada Allah Ta’ala sampai dia tertidur.
Dzikir-dzikir yang dibaca (pada waktu itu) banyak sekali yang disebutkan (dalam hadits-hadits Rasulullah Shallallahu’alaihi wasallam), di antaranya, Kemudian beliau Shallallahu’alaihi wasallam menyebutkan hadits di atas (kitab al-Adzkaar hal. 79 – cet. Darul Manar, Kairo, 1420 H).
Di antara para ulama ada yang menjelasakan bahwa peluang dikabulkannya doa dan diterimanya shalat pada saat setelah mengucapkan dzikir ini lebih besar dibandingkan waktu-waktu lainnya (lihat kitab Tuhfatul Ahwadzi (9/254).
